Murray routed by Roddick

Andy Murray's early preparations for the 2013 tennis campaign were hit by a defeat at the hands of recently-retired Andy Roddick in the Miami Tennis Cup exhibition.

The British number one has enjoyed a fantastic year on the court with an Olympic gold medal in July followed up with his first career Grand Slam title when he defeated Novak Djokovic in the US Open final at Flushing Meadows in New York.

However, Murray's bid for end-of-year success in Miami were hit by Roddick as the American defeated him 6-2 6-3 to book a final showdown with Nicolas Almagro.

The Scot, who will now continue his pre-season training in Florida before moving on to the Mubadala World Tennis Championship, another exhibition tournament, in Abu Dhabi on 27th December, was not worried by his defeat to Roddick.

Murray said: "Andy hasn't hit that many balls the last few months. Maybe his timing was a little bit off, but he still hits the ball very well.

"It was only a few months ago he was making a decent run at the US Open."

Murray is 9/4 to win the opening Grand Slam of 2013 at the Australian Open in Melbourne and is 5/2 to to win on home soil at Wimbledon next summer.
