Tevez urged to bide his time

Carlos Tevez has been told to keep smiling as Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini continues to tinker with his plethora of striker options.

The Argentinian forward has not started the last three games and eyebrows were raised when Mario Balotelli, who scored in the midweek victory over Wigan Athletic, was chosen instead of Tevez.

Tevez remains City's top scorer with six goals this campaign and is currently in the best shape of his entire career after shifting nearly a stone in weight over the last few months.

The 28-year-old is seemingly a more contended individual having been joined in England by his wife and two young daughters, to ease any pain of being on the sidelines.

City host Everton this Saturday - the last team to win a league game at the Etihad Stadium two years ago - and Tevez, 15/4 to open the scoring against David Moyes' team, is hopeful of getting the nod.

Mancini also has one eye on Tuesday's dead-rubber Champions League trip to face Borussia Dortmund and next weekend's Manchester derby against bitter rivals United.

Manchester City are 8/15 to beat Everton while the Toffees can be backed at 11/2 to return to Liverpool with all three points.

City coach David Platt concedes: "Carlos and everyone else not in the starting eleven could be in the next time. It seems chic at the moment for questions to be asked about players not in the team.

"Carlos is fine - he celebrated Mario's goal the other night with a smile on his face. He is a vital member of the squad. He is one of several players who were not in the team on Wednesday night."
