United's lead trimmed by Spurs

Manchester United's lead at the top of the Premier League has been cut to five points after they were held to a 1-1 draw at Tottenham.

Clint Dempsey's last minute equaliser cancelled out Robin van Persie's first half effort, which was his 22nd goal of the season.

Before Dempsey's intervention, United had looked to be on track to pick up the three points, despite Spurs dominating in terms of shots and possession. However, Spurs were arguably lucky when Wayne Rooney had a penalty appeal waved away by referee Chris Foy after appearing to be clipped by Steven Caulker.

Tottenham's goal was a scramble but it capped a defiant display from the home side, who consolidated their fourth-place position in the Premier League. They are now four points ahead of fifth-placed Everton but the Toffees have a game in hand, which is against Southampton on Monday evening.

Everton are 1/1 to secure the three points, with Southampton 3/1 to pick up the win at St Mary's. The draw is 13/5.

Manchester City's 2-0 win against Fulham on Saturday means the gap at the top has been narrowed to five points. United are now 1/3 to win the Premier League, with their bitter rivals 5/2 to retain the crown they won on the final day of last season.
